RURAL BARN CONVERSION

Working with a client who is the financial investor of the project, as well as the builder, is something we have never ventured into before, but relished the opportunity as the brief was to be as creative as possible within an extremely rural setting. At the beginning, the relationship between the architect, the client/builder and Brawn was one based on trust, speaking weekly, sometimes daily, to discuss the exterior and interior vision and how as a team we could get the most out of the barns, which were formerly a large cow shed. Seeing this rural building transform from a simple brick and metal sheet shell, into two homes was extremely satisfying, helping to guide and breath warmth into the once cold and damp space, shows what can be done with a client’s clear vision to create two uniquely fantastic homes, that have an abundance of personality and quality. The trust in Brawn meant that we could design in small subtle elements to maximize the buildings beautiful and sometimes odd features. The finished project is one we are very proud of, forming a special relationship between the space of the existing rural building and the modern interior elements, creating a space like no other.
